(Education isn't something you can finish. Motivational quote by Isaac Asimov)

I really like this quote by Isaac Asimov because of the truth that it holds. Education and learning is a lifelong process. We can learn every day, and as a future educator that is what I hope to teach my students.

Why I Want to Teach

I want to teach because I want my students to have a desire for learning. I want them to be life-long learners and achieve their dreams. I had teachers that helped me have a desire for learning and helped me get to where I needed to be so that I could continue to chase my goals and dreams.

What I  Want to Teach

I want to teach my students things they will remember throughout their lifetime. For example I want to teach them how to be lifelong learners and critical thinkers. I want my students to leave my classroom with an understanding that they have the ability to make decisions for their life as we live in a democracy, and that they know the responsibility they have as they go out into the real world. I will do this all while also teaching my students the importance of inclusion and diversity.

This website highlights some of the ways to make your classroom a progressive, student-centered classroom to best serve your students to the best of your abilities as an educator. It is a good starting point to do these things, and continue to build as you go on.

Some of the key points here are:

  • Create ongoing projects

  • Integrate technology

  • Replace homework with engaging in-class activities

  • Involve students in evaluation

This website has some neat rules and tips for teachers to remember as they are teaching their students. I believe these align well with a progressivist teacher's beliefs.

How I  Want to Teach
I will teach my future students through hands-on learning activities, group work, collaborative projects that are also ongoing, and I want to assess their growth not just by the standardized tests, but through their work they produce, and the projects they complete. I also want to be more than just a teacher to my students. I want to be someone they look up to and feel safe with.
My Philosophy
I align more with the progressivism philosophy than any of the others. This is due to the fact that this philosophy believes in focusing on the whole child instead of the teacher or the content leading to a test. When I was in school I did not learn when the teacher wanted to teach for the test. I want to make sure my students are getting the best education possible, and that it will be beneficial to them.
