Technology in the Classroom

Technology may be seen as a distraction to some, but if it is used in the correct manner it can be used to encourage participation from the students in your classroom. Subjects or topics that used to seem boring to the students, could become something that is interactive and enjoyable. Below are three learning platforms that I have personally used in the past, and felt like they helped me and engaged me in what the teacher was trying to help us understand. However, I would also like to add that there are many more platforms that are also great. These include, but are not limited to, BrainPop, ClassDojo, FlipGrid, PollEverywhere, and so many more.

I chose Kahoot! as the first game-based learning platform that I will likely use in my classroom. I chose this one because while I was in grade school, and even college, this is a site that was used in nearly all of my classes. It is a fun and interactive way to get the students involved and playing a game, while still learning/reviewing topics. Click here for a short video that explains what Kahoot! is all about

Quizizz is another game-based learning program that I am familiar with from personal experience in school. These are fun quizzes that allow students to engage whether at home or in school. There are pre-made quizzes, or you can make your own. I will likely use this in my classroom if I feel like it fits into our lesson plans and will be fun for the students. This will be a friendly and competitive way to help the students want to learn the topic. Click here for a short video that explains what Quizizz is  (How Should Teachers Use Quizizz? 2019).

Discovery Education is another learning platform that is considered one of the best standard-based digital content sites for K-12. They have online textbooks, videos and movies, and more! In school I used this if I needed to find information on any topic for a paper or for a video to put in a powerpoint. Click here to watch a short video that explains it more in-depth

Benefits of Technology in the Classroom

This quick video briefly explains how technology makes learning more interesting and fun for students. It is also a useful tool for teachers to update their teaching ways as well (Smith, 2016)
